Managing Director, North America Structured Credit Leader, Guy Carpenter

Michael (Mickey) Shemi is a Managing Director at Guy Carpenter where he joined the firm in November 2023 and leads its North America Structured Credit practice.  In his current role, he works with a variety of financial institutions globally in establishing risk transfer programs for capital and risk management purposes along with assessing the strategic and financial impact of these transactions for the issuing institutions, and assists in shaping Guy Carpenter’s public policy efforts related to the GSEs and the banking system, including the US Basel 3 Endgame process.

Mickey came to Guy Carpenter from the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), where he was Principal Advisor having joined the Agency in 2021.  His work at FHFA was focused on strengthening the financial position of the GSEs and, in that capacity, Mickey led a variety of workstreams of critical strategic importance to FHFA which included updating the GSEs’ single-family mortgage guarantee fee pricing framework along with other initiatives related to capital planning and credit risk transfer.

Mickey joined FHFA from investment bank Moelis & Co.’s Financial Institutions Advisory group.  There he advised a wide variety of banks and other global financial institutions and creditor groups in distressed financial situations in the US and Europe. Previously, he was at Christofferson, Robb & Co., a private money management firm investing in global credit markets with a special focus on financial institutions and risk-sharing transactions.
