Mark is a Managing Director and Head of Banks within SMBC’s Global Financial Institutions Group.  He is responsible for SMBC’s engagement with bank clients across a range of products and balance sheet strategies, including loan sales, risk transfer, and capital recycling and deployment.
Mark brings more than a decade of experience working with banks across balance sheet, capital, and asset optimization strategies. Most recently, he served as Head of Bank Coverage and Origination at PIMCO, covering U.S., Canadian, and European banks, and executing a range of transactions, including significant risk transfer transactions (SRTs), asset sales, and broader balance sheet management initiatives. Prior to that, Mark held senior roles at Citi, including Head of North America Bank Solutions and Latin America Financial Solutions, and at Banamex in Mexico City.
Mark’s experience lies at the intersection of banking, capital markets, and private debt, and is aimed at deepening relationships with financial institutions to expand SMBC’s origination and distribution capabilities. He holds a master’s degree in international relations from American University, where he also earned two undergraduate degrees. He is a CFA Charterholder and speaks Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.
