As Co-Chief Investment Officer of Merchants Investment Partners, Mr. King leads investment strategy, credit, and portfolio management for the firm’s real estate debt activities. With more than 25 years of experience in commercial real estate (CRE) and structured finance, he brings deep expertise across multiple credit cycles and a broad
range of real estate and asset-backed finance sectors.
In addition, Mr. King oversees the capital markets platform centered on SRT and agency commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) issuance for the Merchants Bank of Indiana balance sheet. Under Mr. King’s leadership, Merchants has become a market leader in SRT backed by CRE assets, executing more than $4 billion in transactions. In the agency CMBS sector, he has driven the securitization of $2 billion of collateral through the Freddie Mac Q-Series program, including the first single-asset issuance ever completed through that product.
Prior to joining Merchants in February 2022, Mr. King held roles as a CRE and CMBS portfolio manager and credit specialist at investment management firms including Davidson Kempner, Semper Capital, and Jerica Capital. He began his career in CMBS trading and capital markets at investment banks including JPMorgan, UBS, and RBC. Mr. King holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Virginia.
